Laparoscopic Procedures
We are proud to be one of the only facilities in the area offering both laparoscopic spay and laparoscopic gastropexy surgeries for dogs.
A laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure where a tiny camera is passed into the patients body through a small incision. The camera transmits a digital image to a screen in the operating room, allowing the surgeon to see inside the body with minimal discomfort to the patient. The surgeons hands are kept outside the pets body for either procedure, highly diminishing recovery time for the patient
During the spay procedure, electrocautery seals the blood vessels and the ovaries are removed. A traditional spay involves removing the ovaries and uterus through an incision made in the pets abdomen.
During the gastropexy surgery, the surgeon makes a tiny incision in the pets abdomen and uses a tiny camera and instruments to attach the stomach to the abdominal wall, minimizing the risk of gastric torsion, or bloat.
These procedures are done on a case by case basis and your pets doctor will be able to advise you on the suitability of either surgery during your pets pre-surgical exam.
